MUSCHETT HIGH’S Class Two athlete Shanoya Douglas and Paul Henry of New Era Track Club stole the spotlight at yesterday’s On Di Run Sprint Fest 200 metres meet at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College, after clocking the fastest times among their peers.

Douglas, who was fourth in the half-lap event in Class Three at last year’s ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs), looked quite relaxed in winning her heat in 24.16 seconds for the fastest time in the class and overall. Hydel High’s Shemonique Hazle, who won the event in Class Two at Champs last year, won her heat in 24.64 for second overall with her teammate Olivia St John third overall in 25.18.

Henry, the former Gaynstead High and Mico University athlete who has been a member of the New Era Track Club for the past three seasons, turned back a strong field to clock a personal best 21.28 against a negative wind of 1.1 metres per second to win the men’s open 200m. Making his professional debut for Elite Performance Track Club, former St Elizabeth Technical schoolboy Javorne Dunkley was second in 21.51 with Andre Harris of New Era Track Club third in 21.60.

Hydel’s girls came out on top in three classes.

In Class Four Teixara Johnson won her heat in a personal best 25.11. Her teammate Tyecia Mc Donald (26.05) was second while St Andrew High’s Latanya Briscoe took third overall in 27.34.

Alliah Baker, who is expected to do well for the Ferry-based school in Class One this season, coasted to an easy win in the class after clocking 24.72. Her teammate Abbigail Campbell was second overall in 25.08 with Rohana Sudlow of St Catherine High third in 25.39.

Sashana Johnson, competing in Class Two, picked up Hydel’s other win after stopping the clock in a personal best 24.89. Trisha Lee Sutherland (25.41) of Clarendon College and Jahmilla Humes (25.74) of Meadowbrook High both did personal best times for second and third.

Calabar sprinters captured the Class Two and Three events. Nickecoy Bramwell was impressive in Class Two after stopping the clock in a personal best 21.77. Muschett’s Johan Ronaldo Smythe was second in a personal best 21.89 while third went to Detarge Morgan of St Jago High in 22.60.

In Class Three Calabar’s Chad Brown came out on top in a personal best 22.91 ahead of teammate Diwayne Sharpe, 23.27. Marquis Page of St Jago was third in 23.34.

Javaughn Pinnock of St Jago and New Era Track Club topped Class One after winning his heat in 21.96. Romario Hines (22.01) of Munro College was second with third going to Keano Charles of Calabar in 22.33.
