KC dominate javelin open at King of the Ring

Kingston College swept the top three places in the javelin open at last Saturday’s King of the Ring throwing meet at Excelsior High School, as top teams vying for the title at next month’s ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships revved up their preparation in the field events.

Joel Clement picked up the win for the North Street-based team after throwing 54.39m, as teammates Kimari Smith (51.98m) and Tavar Gordon (49.48m) finished second and third, respectively.

Kamari Kennedy of Calabar High had a big win in the boys’ Class One shot put with a heave of 17.79m, getting the better of Joseph Salmon of Jamaica College (17.59m) and his teammate Denzil Phillips (17.08m).

Jamaica College had a one-two finish in the Class Two boys shot put as Nasir D’Aguilar won with a distance of 15.74m, with his teammate Jafari Shaw second with 15.54m, as Mark Earlington of Calabar took third with 14.59m.

World Athletics Championships representative Chad Wright continued his preparation for the Commonwealth Games in the men’s discus by winning the event with a throw of 61.88m, getting the better of Kai Chang of UWI Mona, who was second with 61.70m.

Among the females, Merl Grove High’s Abigail Bennett led the way, winning the Class One discus with a distance of 46.37m. Jada Francis of Immaculate Conception was second with 40.63m, while Akayla Brown of Excelsior took third with 38.29m.

Brandane Malcolm of Hydel High was victorious in the Class Two girls’ discus with a winning mark of 45.89m. Jamie Lee Tulloch of Immaculate (42.68m) and Zoeyann Plummer of Excelsior (42.67m) ended second and third, respectively.

Savannah McKenzie of St Jago High captured the Class Three girls’ discus with a mark of 39.85m, getting the better of her teammate Celecia Young (31.72m), while Camperdown High’s Syajia Young was third with 33.58m.

Sage Cruickshank of Convent of Mercy, Alpha topped the Class One shot put with 12.76m, as Rehanna Biggs of St Jago was second with 12.58m and Katie Gordon of Excelsior third with 12.21m.

Jamie Lee Tulloch of Immaculate ruled supreme in the Class Two Shot Put with a heave of 13.59m. Alyssa Forrester of Excelsior took second with 13.20m and Ramona Campbell of Hydel third with 12.22m.
