Jampro to establish Business Hub
Jamaica Trade and Invest, which has now reclaimed its old name, Jampro, will be transforming some 7,000 square feet of space at its head office in New Kingston into a computerised Business Hub.
Karl Samuda, minister of invest-ment, industry and commerce, said the hub should be up and running within the next four months.
"This Business Hub will be the only one-stop business facility of its kind in Jamaica," Samuda told lawmakers during his contribution to the 2010-11 Sectoral Debate, which he opened in Gordon House on Tuesday.
"It will allow for easier and more direct access by clients to business information via touch-screen monitors, Internet desks and a modified contact centre."
The minister said the hub would see the establishment of a per-manent showroom, displaying a variety of Jamaican products, with an emphasis on new and emerging products and brands and a virtual and physical information hub that provides data to assist clients in making critical business decisions.
He said that JAMPRO would, on a monthly basis, facilitate full-service days, where it will assemble all government-related services for the conduct of business in the hub and invite the business community to access these services.
Mark Thomas, Jampro's com-munications manager, said the hub would only operate locally for the time being and would specifically target the export sector.
"... The plan is to make the space more accessible to the business community, and offer more relevant and available infor-mation," he said.
The cost of the project was not immediately disclosed.
