Hours before the prime minister's address to the nation last night, Gleaner Writer Barrington Flemming took to the streets of Montego Bay, St James, to gauge the public's view as to what move Mr Golding should make next in the Manatt affair. Flemming asked:

"Would an apology by the prime minister be enough?"

Daniel Foster, taxi operator

"Bruce has been a good prime minister so far, and we can see what he has done positively, I don't see the need for him to resign from his post, but I am very disappointed in the stance that he has taken in the Manatt, Phelps & Phillips saga that has caused this embarrassment on his Government and his leadership. But at the end of the day, he is a good prime minister so far and we can't just throw him away like that."

Phillip Lemonte, photographer

"My view on the prime minister is that he misled the people on the Manatt, Phelps & Phillips issue and he should resign. He no longer has the trust of the Jamaican people, including me."

Alan Lewin, photographer

"I would feel better if Prime Minister Bruce Golding resigns. He should not have gotten involved in the extradition matter, he should be neutral."

Shawn Garth, hotel receptionist/cashier

"Some people in the previous administration told lies before and nobody pressured them to resign. As I now see it, if he wants to resign, it is up to him. If he doesn't, that is up to him."

Ennett Morris, aircraft groomer

"When Colin Campbell was in the hot seat (with the Trafigura affair), he (Golding) was the same one who called for his resignation. What a man planteth, that's what he reaps. He needs to resign, but he can keep his MP seat, and then he needs to come out and give a public apology."
