Jamaica Chamber of Commerce calls for full disclosure

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) has called for Prime Minister Bruce Golding to provide complete disclosure, as soon as possible, regarding Government's involvement with US law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips.
In a statement at a press conference yesterday afternoon, JCC President Milton Samuda said while Golding's apology to the nation on Monday had met the chamber's demand for such action, full disclosure surrounding the events was required to ensure transparency.
Samuda said the JCC was urging Golding to address the issue as soon as the possession of all the information makes it possible. He said the chamber stood ready to work with the prime minister in arriving at timelines and performance criteria for the deliverables to which he committed.
"We consider this a critical move because his personal credibility, and that of his Government and the continued acceptance of his apology, are contingent on his delivering on those promises," Samuda told journalists and JCC members.
Expect fulsome address
The JCC president said while the chamber had deliberately refrained from imposing any timelines on Golding regarding full disclosure on the events, it expected him to address the matter fully.
The chamber also expressed satisfaction with Golding's decision to adopt the suggestion to use the Partnership for Transformation project as the vehicle to address the vexed issue of the rehabilitation of garrison constituencies, noting that the chamber would be closely monitoring the issue.
Asked about rumours of threats which could affect some members in downtown Kingston, Samuda said the JCC had not received any reports yesterday afternoon about any incidents that could give rise to such a concern.
