Police probe threats to JFJ personnel

Members of the Criminal Investigative Bureau (CIB), assigned to the Protective Service Division, have begun investigating reports of threats made against the lives of a number of persons, including politicians and personnel from Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ).

"We are now assessing some of these reports to determine the level of the threat," Deputy Commissioner Glenmore Hinds told The Gleaner yesterday.

He stressed that members of the Protective Service Division have been asked to probe a case of threat made against three members of JFJ.

Serious matter

In the meantime, a release Tuesday from the Ministry of National Security says National Security Minister Dwight Nelson was taking the threats against the lives of three prominent members of the JFJ very seriously.

Nelson said the police were in contact with the JFJ members named and will provide the necessary protection. He also reiterated that threats against any Jamaican will be taken seriously and accorded the attention that they deserve.

According to Nelson, all Jamaicans must be allowed to go about their lawful business without the threat of intimidation.
