Trelawny natives host reunionin New York

Persons from Trelawny who are now residing in Europe, Canada and the United States will gather in New York from May 28-30 for the 29th annual reunion weekend.

The event, organised by the Friends of Trelawny Association (FOTA), is expected to bring together more than 3,000 former residents on the Memorial Day weekend holiday in the US.

Activities for the weekend will begin on May 26 with the annual "heat in the place" fete, which will be held at Chef Orchid, Building 14, at JFK Airport in Queens, Jamaica, New York.

On Saturday, the annual Trelawny Business Symposium will be held at the JFK Holiday Inn Hotel. The general manager of the Urban Development Corporation, Joy Douglas, will deliver the keynote address. Panellists will include Falmouth Mayor Colin Gager, Senator Dennis Meadows, representatives of Royal Cruise Lines, as well as vice-president and general manager of Scotia Jamaica Building Society, Gladstone Whitelocke.

Following the symposium, the annual general meeting and election of a new board of FOTA will take place.

The activities will climax next Sunday with the staging of the 29th anniversary picnic at the Anthony Wayne Recreation Park. There will be various sporting activities such as soccer, volleyball, cricket, and dominoes. This year's reunion is being sponsored by Scotiabank, Western Union, Royal Cruise Lines, The Jamaica Pegasus, Breezes Resort, Fish Eye Bar and Grill, GraceKennedy, People's Choice Furniture and Western Union.
