The security forces yesterday started the mammoth task of clearing the many roadblocks that had been mounted across the Corporate Area.

With the most emphasis on downtown Kingston, the police and soldiers used two bulldozers and four trucks to remove some of the debris, which had been placed across the roadway.

By mid-morning, The Gleaner team was able to move freely across roads, which had been blocked since Sunday.

Spanish Town Road was a breeze as the team moved through past the Denham Town Police Station and on to Industrial Terrace.

Other streets in downtown Kingston were also being cleared by the security forces. When they were inclined, young men on the corners got into the action.

At the intersection of Princess and Charles streets, soldiers forced a group of men to remove the blockades that were mounted on the roadway.

The soldiers then ordered the men to the Beeston and Princess streets intersection to remove other items that had been used to block the roads.

The clean-up effort is expected to continue today.
