Henry hails public transport workers

Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry is lauding employees within the public transportation sector in the Kingston Metropolitan Tran-sport Region (KMTR) who stuck to their task to keep transportation going despite the challenges brought on by the recent period of public disturbance within the region.

In a release on the weekend, the minister noted that the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) managed to keep its operations going consistently throughout the disturbances, with only limited withdrawal of service along some routes based on security considerations. He made special mention of the commitment of the company's management and staff, whose combined efforts allowed for the bus operators and support crews to remain on the city streets during the very challenging period.

Port of kingston unaffected

At the same time, he noted that operations at the port of Kingston were virtually unaffected by the instability nearby. No vessel, whether docking at, or departing from, the port was affected by the unrest, which the minister said was commendable.

Additionally, he said despite the fear factor posing challenges at times in accessing the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) from the heart of Kingston, the staff under the umbrella of the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) at the NMIA remained committed to their duties.

Henry, in lauding the overall effort, praised "the individual and collective commitment of the workers and management, who demonstrated loyalty to the cause of the commuters, passengers and the cargo transfer needs generally."

He stated that "clear devotion to duty and national productivity were evident among the transport sector groups," which, he said, "augurs well for the future of the country".
