Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga could be hauled before the courts for comments he attributed to the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) made during an interview last week.

President of the PSOJ, Joseph M. Matalon, has charged that Seaga misrepresented statements he made.

"The matter has been placed in the hands of Mr Matalon's lawyers for appropriate action," said a statement released by the PSOJ late yesterday.

A clearly furious Matalon asserted that "the small price to pay" comment was in reference to the closure of businesses and not the loss of life.

The PSOJ president said he was astounded that Seaga could have converted his remarks into a statement suggesting he had no empathy for the innocent killed in the unrest.

He said Seaga's "irrational outburst" has damaged his reputation and endangered his personal security.
