Accident on Old Hope Road claims two lives

A FIRE truck arrived at yesterday's accident scene just outside Jamaica College to power-wash the blood off Old Hope Road in St Andrew approximately two hours after a collision involving two vehicles left two dead.
Vincent Reid of Waterhouse in St Andrew and Sonny Warren of Nine Miles in Bull Bay died on the spot and five persons were taken to hospital.
The Jamaica College and Old Hope Road intersection was quiet in the early afternoon, with few witnesses milling around as Matilda's Corner police personnel wrapped up their on-site investigations.
"People ah run come up and seh 'Is what kind of mad man that!'" Michael Samuels, who was travelling in the Toyota RAV-4 that was involved in the accident, exclaimed.
Samuels was referring to the driver of a white Toyota pickup, said to be carrying workers, contracted by a utility company, towards Papine.

According to reports, a Jagra truck travelling along Old Hope Road stopped at the red light just outside Jamaica College. The driver of a red Toyota RAV-4, who was leaving Jamaica College, proceeded on the green.
Eyewitnesses said the white pickup attempted to pass the truck in the right lane.
The pickup then collided with the RAV-4, crushing the front end of the vehicle.
"No man! From we see that we know seh somebody must dead," said an eyewitness who wished to remain unnamed.
Dennis Williams, the driver of the RAV-4, said he happened to inch his way out in anticipation of someone breaking the light.
"God is on my side. Me nuh just step (the gas pedal) because me say, is Old Hope Road this."
The Matilda's Corner police and Accident Reconstruction Unit are still investigating.
