Asafa, the guitarist, caps 'special' day

Asafa Powell proved on Sunday that he is as fast with his hands as he is with his feet.
His father, William Powell, smiled broadly yesterday as Asafa, the third-fastest man on Earth, nimbly played the guitar at The Redemption National Church of God in Waterloo, St Catherine.
The church, which is pastored by Asafa's mom, Cislin, was hosting a Father's Day celebration.
"It is a special day to see my two sons, Nigel and Asafa, here at church to celebrate Father's Day with us.
"This is more special, as it is in the house of the Lord. It feels good," said William, whose wife is known for her religious zeal and public comments about Asafa, after preaching the day's sermon.
Family means everything
Asafa, who has run the fastest time over 100 metres this season - 9.82 seconds - showed that he was quick in the strumming department too, as he played the guitar to the delight of the congregation, especially the children.
"Family is very special to me and it is very special to be here celebrating the day with my parents, and my father in particular, today being Father's Day," Asafa told The Gleaner.
The junior Powell, who said he is backing defending champions Italy in the FIFA World Cup under way in South Africa, explained that he has never parted with his love for music.
"The church has always been close to me, as both my parents are pastors," Asafa remarked.
But five-year-old relative Kenicia Smith expressed surprise that Asafa was a closet musician.
"He is my cousin but mi never know him can play de guitar so good!" she exclaimed.
And he wasn't the only Powell playing an instrument yesterday: brother Nigel ruled the keyboard.
But skill and fame aside, it was the closeness of family which meant the most to the Powell patriarch.
"I feel really good to be in church worshipping God and have my family by my side. This is a great day," William said.
