Questionable media coverage

The Editor, Sir:

Recently, I have observed that the electronic media is very much into speculation, hearsay and gossip, just like the ordinary citizens out there. I have, therefore, stopped listening to the news on some radio and television stations in preference to the print media, The Gleaner in particular. I must say that CVM seems to be trying to give us some credible information which is accompanied by footage. Their presenters are also easy on the eyes.

There are other programmes where presenters and moderators, instead of seeking truth, thrust their opinions as if they are facts, throwing the public in a confused state with the information they provide. When these media houses realise that information they broadcast on the airways was incorrect, they do not even apologise . (I have observed that The Gleaner apologises when it blunders).

Talk-show hosts allow persons to thrust some crazy things on the airways. Just today I heard a man on one talk show suggesting that we may be going into a dictatorship. The talk-show host did not even ask where he got such information. Hello, please! Let us preserve our country and pray that the reduction in crime and the recovery of our dollar continues.

I am, etc.,
