Top GSAT girl has ambitious dreams

A paediatrician and a fashion designer is not a combination you hear every day, but that is what star Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) performer Kadian Farquharson wants to accomplish.

The Lannaman's Preparatory School grade-six student, who is bound for Immaculate Conception HIgh School, has had a "pretty decent" start to her dream after averaging 99.6 per cent in GSAT.

In fact, that start has landed her the top-girl award in the island and the Bank of Nova Scotia Scholarship. The scholarships are to be announced on Wednesday.

"I was happy and kind of confused because I saw everybody asking about me and then when I found out I was the one they were talking about, I was very happy.

"I'm very happy for the school I passed for and I'm just looking forward to going there and experiencing what they have at the school," she said.

Kadian's stats

Farquharson scored hundreds in mathematics, science, communication task and 99s in social studies and English language.

Kadian's mother, Jasmine, was ecstatic when she found out about her results.

"I'm extremely proud of Kadian. She has been consistently performing well and this is just a culmination of that performance over the years," she said.

"I was elated and I started crying. I was overjoyed. She worked hard for this GSAT examination and I'm extremely proud," she said.

The star pupil's father, Glenroy, was in the same mood but confessed he was somewhat surprised.

"I was extremely proud and surprised in the sense that I was not expecting the 100 per cent, but based on what she told me when she had completed the exams, she told me that she got three hundreds, so I was looking for an average up in the 98 and I am very proud of her," he said.

Both parents expect the history buff to continue to do well.

Kadian's principal, Trudy Hardy, was also proud and sees nothing but success for her in the future.

"I'm very elated and very excited, very proud of Kadian. since she entered, she has been on honour roll from kindergarten to grade six. Overall, I am very proud of the school's performance," she said.
