Creative Kids honours GSAT high performers

IT WAS all cheers at Creative Kids Learning Academy on Wednesday as the school celebrated its success in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).
The institution, which produced several high performers, including a government scholar, only began operating as a kindergarten 10 years ago and has been fighting to keep afloat with limited funds.
Today, the independent institu-tion, which has been expanded to accommodate students up to grade six, is glowing with excitement about the academic achievements of the school.
Full of joy
Kristen Preston, who achieved a 99 per cent average in the placement exam, copped a government scholarship for her outstanding performance.
The scholar, who will be taking up her place at St Andrew High School for Girls, could not control her glee while she boasted about her high marks in the exam.
She got perfect scores in mathematics and communication task, while receiving 98 per cent in language arts and 97 per cent in social studies and science.
For this, Kristen said hard work and dedication are the ingredients for her desirable results.
The avid reader, who had her mind set on becoming a doctor, maintained an 'A' average throughout her tenure at the school while engaging in other extra-curricular activities.
"I am so excited, I just could not believe when I heard I got a scholarship," she said.
She noted that her aim was to continue doing well so that she can achieve great success.
Mother elated
Her mother, Donna Preston, who was no less excited about the top student, expressed how thankful she was for the assistance to give her daughter a secondary education.
"She is still involved in extra-curricular activities such as swimming, so that (scholarship) can help with some of those expenses and the books are expensive, as well so this will help significantly with the expenses," she said.
The school is most excited about Kristen's achievements, saying that for the past three years since the school has been sitting the grade-six exam, the grades have been superb.
"The passes are excellent in all subject areas. The school's average is above 90 per cent," she said.
Haedi-Kaye Holmes, principal, said that while it is challenging to continue operations, she will never give up the hard work which is reaping rewards.
