Leave Rev Dick alone
The Editor, Sir:
With reference to Errol Williamson's chiding of Rev Devon Dick in his letter of July 9, 'Dick's straw men', I dare say while I do not speak for the entire church, as a member of that congregation for more than 20 years, it is my humble feeling that I have some authority to inform Errol Williamson that the people there have no intention of relieving Rev Dick of his position.
As a matter of fact, I go further to say that Rev Dick does not preach politics from his podium. If he deviates at any time, it would be in sport-related matters as he is an avid sport fan.
I uphold and support all men of the cloth to have a vested interest in the running of their country and to observe and comment on matters concerning the governing of the country, in so far as they see fit. Being a pastor is not a shackle for commenting on public matters.
While I might not agree with Rev Dick that the prime minister should go, I see no reason why the pastor who doubles as a columnist cannot express his personal opinion, moreso, when he tries to make logical deductions.
I am, etc.,
E. WILLIAMS
