PwC names new partner
PricewaterhouseCoopers Jamaica has named Paul Williams a partner, assigned to assurance services, with particular emphasis on external audit, leveraging his primary expertise in the financial services industry.
PwC Jamaica now has 15 partners.
Williams has been at PwC since 1993, joining the firm in the year after his graduation from the University of the West Indies, Mona, where he studied accounting.
He "progressed rapidly" in the assurance team to become a director in July 2005, said PwC.
During those 12 years, he also obtained an MBA from the Manchester Business School in the United Kingdom.
Shields joins KingAlarm
Security company KingAlarm Services Limited has added former crime fighter Mark Shields to its board of directors.
Shields, who has three decades of policing experience, worked with Scotland Yard in the United Kingdom before coming to Jamaica to take up a job as Deputy Commissioner of Police.
He has since retired from policing after five years in the latter position, and formed his own company - Shields Crime and Security Consultants.
John Azar, managing director of KingAlarm, said Shields has "a critical understanding of crime and security-related matters in Jamaica", and can offer strategic direction as his company positions for further expansion locally and throughout the Caribbean.
KingAlarm is a 10-year-old company which has built a network of 42,000 clients at over 7,500 locations since March 2000.
The security consultant's expertise straddles terrorism, anti-kidnap strategies, hostage negotiation, strategic intelligence, and covert surveillance, KingAlarm points out.
Shields joins chairman Philip A. Azar, Joanne M. Azar, Anna Rousseau, P. Andrew Azar, Phylis A. Ammar, Peter E. Azar and John, on the board.
Casino board in place
Cabinet has endorsed the appointment of five members to the Casino Gaming Commission: insurance executive and horse racing enthusiast Dennis Lalor; digital printing businessman Mark Roberts; attorneys-at-law Afeef Lazarus and Dennis Edmunds and chartered accountant Raphael Gordon, who is also deputy chairman of Caymanas Track Limited.
Their tenure extends two years to June 2012.
Issa now energy spokesman for PSOJ
Joey Issa has replaced Winston Ormsby as chairman of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica's Petroleum Marketing Committee, formerly the energy committee.
Ormsby held the position for two years.
The Petroleum Marketing Committee, which was formulated a decade ago in May 2000, includes Chevron/Texaco, Cool Oasis, Cool Petroleum Limited, Epping, Gas Products Limited, IGL Limited, Jampet, Petcom and Unipet as members.
Issa, a certified accountant, is head of the Cool Group of Companies, inclusive of Cool Petroleum Limited, the operators of the Shell-branded service stations.
As chairman, Issa will lead in talks between the marketing companies and the Government.
