Gregg sets up car accessory retail shop
Gary Gregg has transformed a property his company once used as a warehouse into a retail outfit for custom car accessories.
B.D. Gregg and Brothers Limited, a 63-year-old company, recently opened the new store for business from a 3,000-square-foot building on Camp Road, converted to storage and showroom for custom automobile wheels, Maxxis and other tyres, Tein suspensions and accessories.
It sits on a larger 16,000 square feet of land that BD Gregg formerly used as storage for its gas station at Harbour and Church streets.
The size of the investment was not disclosed.
Self-described as a leading retailer and distributor of motor accessories, B.D. Gregg has been trading custom wheels for 20 years. The company, run by Gary Gregg, son of late founder Basil, was started in 1947 as an operator of a Shell-branded gas station.
Gregg is now seeking to create a niche in the motor-vehicle accessories segment and has already established several subdealerships throughout the island.
"We started three and half months ago, and we are trying to build slowly," said General Manager Peter Moodie Jr.
"Our policy here is to try and meet the public's demand, given concern with what is happening in the economy."
Since opening, Moodie claims that the business has been able to break even on a monthly basis.
"That is our target at this time," he said. "It's not only to maximise our profit, but to get our name out there that we are one of the more affordable companies around."
The company also has the facility for rims and tyre installation, car wash and upholstery cleaning, but has all but written off motor vehicle servicing becoming a part of its offering.
"I really don't want to go into car servicing, but in the future you cannot close your eyes to anything," Moodie said.
