Shame on PNP, JLP

The Editor, Sir:

I now understand better the motivation for action of our political leaders. "Go my way or not at all". Having facilitated this crime monster with which the country wrestles, they would prefer to hold "hard end" to the detriment of the Jamaican people. The People's National Party (PNP) says "15 days or not at all." The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) says "30 days or not at all." So we go not at all.

The PNP and its vapid leadership should bear the brunt of the blame on this one. They could have easily supported the measure and blasted the Government anyway for how it was implemented. They could have noted their uncomfortable support and increase their vigilance on human rights abuses - perhaps the greatest danger in the state of emergency. But as usual, they not only chop down the tree but kill the root too.

Should the crime rate return to "normal" levels and unfortunately this may very well occur, I hope the Jamaican people will not forget these selfish actions of our leaders.

The JLP and PNP should be ashamed. This is a defining moment in history for Jamaica. The window is small and closing. We simply do not have the time for political games.

I am, etc.,
