Well done, scouts

The Editor, Sir:

I heartily congratulate the Scout Association of Jamaica on the magnificent achievement of its 100th anniversary of scouting in Jamaica, which its leaders are celebrating this year as an institution, empowering thousands of young people over the last 10 decades in the area of training and lifelong skills.

They can take pride in the outstanding achievements of scouters of centuries and the stellar contributions which they have made, and continue to make in various spheres of life, both nationally and internationally over these years.

Integrity

They have not merely brought to realisation the dream of the founding fathers in respect of training of young people, who have become leaders of integrity, but have surpassed that in the sense that scouting has survived for 100 years, because of the leadership quality that prevailed over these decades, the commitment, selflessness and love for God and humankind that they acted out as articulated in the scout motto. I bear witness to this fact, as I have been closely associated with a scout leader for the last 39 years in marriage.

It is my solemn prayer that the zeal of the association for the upliftment of young people through training and education will never be diminished, and that God will raise up more young people to serve, as they continue to build leaders for many centuries.
