Fine ants and a white baby
Oxy Moron, Contributor
There is a certain place, located just across from where the remains of some of our heroes lie, where some very strange things are happening. There seems to be an invasion of fine ants that seem capable of removing millions of dollars bit by bit without being seen.
Now, for months, civil servants, teachers, police and nurses have been clamouring for what they believe is rightfully theirs, and are being told the coffers are empty. If that were so, how are these fine ants finding the dough?
My suggestion to these 'claim ants' is that they transform themselves into fine ants, crawl right up the steps in one long line as fine ants are wont to do, collude with the fine ants that are already nesting there, and they will find the loot that has been stashed away. For if others are having a field day, why shouldn't they? They need to act now because if they don't, not one red cent will be left by those rabid little creatures already there.
Yet, the ability of these fine ants is not as baffling as the recent news out of Britain that a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white baby girl was born to a black-skinned Nigeria couple in London. The parents, both of Nigerian Igbo origin, have no white ancestors and have two black-skinned children.
Baffled
Everybody, including the couple's four-year-old son and geneticists the world over, is baffled. Everyone, that is, except the child's father and mother, who named the baby Nmachi, meaning "beauty of God" in their native Igbo language. It is reported the father said, "My wife is true to me. Even if she hadn't been, the baby still wouldn't look like that." Ah well. He is resigned to the idea that she is a "miracle" baby.
Now, should that 'miracle' happen to me, Oxy Moron, who has black skin and black ancestors, possibly from Nigeria, I being a descendant of slaves, I would be yelling 'Do Not Accept' until test is done. It is 2010! Just imagine black, black me going around with a blue-eyed, blonde baby girl, telling people it's a miracle in this country of sceptics and mischiefmakers.
They would crowd around me to see this 'miracle', but in their living rooms, on the phone, behind my back and in their hearts they would be whispering that J word. And even if the test results say the child is indeed mine and is truly a miracle, they still would not believe. Therefore, the real miracle for this Nigerian couple is not that they have a white baby, it is that they are living in England and not Jamaica.
