CSA confirms Walter Kemmsies for 2010 conference

The Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) has confirmed several speakers for its 2010 annual general meeting, conference and exhibition to be held in Jamaica, October 11-13. Among them is chief economist, Dr Walter Kemmsies, PhD. The conference which will be held at the Rose Hall Resort and Spa, is themed: 'RIMS Now: Dawn of a New Beginning.' The conference is being hosted by the Shipping Association of Jamaica.

Below is Kemmsies' biography.

Dr Walter Kemmsies is Moffatt & Nichol's chief economist, directing and overseeing studies and financial analyses, as well as providing forecasts of global trade and economic trends as they pertain to investment in transportation infrastructure. Since joining Moffatt & Nichol, Dr Kemmsies has worked on numerous strategic business development plans for North, Central and South American ports and federal agencies, and has worked with a number of confidential clients on high-profile merger and acquisition transactions and terminal-operator expansion decisions.

Seasoned economist

Dr Kemmsies is a seasoned economist with a global perspective, having lived in Europe and Latin America and travelled extensively throughout Asia. Prior to joining Moffatt & Nichol, he was the head of European Strategy at JP Morgan, London, which he joined after heading Global Industry Strategy for UBS, where he covered 72 industries on a worldwide basis. He began his career as an economics professor at the University of Memphis.

In his current as well as previous positions, he has led teams that developed macroeconomic and company databases to forecast the performance of industries on a regional and global basis, based on a proprietary blend of fundamental and quantitative models. Dr Kemmsies has provided expertise on industry and company analysis for research analysts at various financial institutions.

He is also an external director on the board of an investment fund, a New York Stock Exchange-registered financial analyst, and a member of the National Association of Business Economists. Dr Kemmsies frequently speaks at major industry conferences in the US and abroad, and is a regular columnist for American Shipper. He has published research for financial investors and in academic journals, and participates in the Federal Reserve's Survey of Professional Forecasters.
