Hill to face Home Circuit Court

The fraud trial of former Cash Plus boss Carlos Hill will move to the Home Circuit Court after the current break, as prosecutors seek to have him convicted of the most serious charge arising from the failed investment scheme.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Diahann Gordon-Harrison told the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday that Hill would first stand trial for fraudulently inducing persons to invest, the most serious of several fraud charges he is facing in the aftermath of the collapse of Cash Plus.

Gordon-Harrison explained that the change of venue was also based on the fact that this charge can only be tried in the Home Circuit Court, as it is outside the jurisdiction of the Resident Magistrate's Court.

The Home Circuit Court can impose a prison sentence of seven years at hard labour if the former Cash Plus boss is found guilty.

Yesterday, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey adjourned the case until September 20, giving prosecutors time to transfer the case to the Circuit Court.

Gordon-Harrison also pointed out that Hill, along with his brother Bertram Hill and former Cash Plus chief financial officer, Peter Wilson, will also stand trial for obtaining money by false pretences and conspiracy to defraud arising from the failed investment scheme.

Bertram Hill and Wilson also had their bail extended and Gordon-Harrison said these charges will be heard after Carlos Hill's trial is completed.
