NOTEWORTHY - Unholy Patois Bible

Published:Tuesday | August 10, 2010 | 12:00 AM

  • Unholy Patois Bible

English is the language of commerce, and the most widely spoken language. It would certainly make more sense and better use of those linguists to spend some time teaching the English language to the masses than to be translating the Bible into some dialect that is spoken by a few folk in a country where the official language is supposed to be English.

I have no problem with what Louise Bennett did, but the Bible is not just an ordinary book. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding and its decisions are immutable.

Christ is its grand object and the glory of God its end. It involves the highest responsibility and its sacred continents should not be trifled with. In short, the Bible is God's book.

  • Mandevillepolice did well

I wish to commend Superintendent Taylor, Deputy Superintendent Simpson and all the brave men and women of the Mandeville police station who so quickly and professionally apprehended the suspects in the murder of Dr Neil McGill. While there can be no compensation for his death, there is at least comfort in the knowledge that the alleged perpetrators have been apprehended.

I urge all the good people of Mandeville to turn in the gunmen so that we can all live in peace without pain and without fear.

  • Gun amnesty

I have been hearing talk about the possibility of a gun amnesty and there has been a lot of debate about whether it can work. I believe it can work, but only if the penalties for possession of an illegal firearm are tougher after the amnesty is up. For example, after giving everyone who owns an illegal gun the opportunity to turn it in, and the time allotted is over, then that's where the authorities must get tough.

How about life imprisonment without parole after the date is up? I think we should try that.
