Independent commish to meet with Gause

The Westmoreland police are appealing to the public to assist them in identifying four of five men shot dead in alleged police-criminal confrontations in sections of the parish early Monday morning.
Meanwhile, newly appointed independent commissioner of investigations, Terrence Williams, said he would be holding a meeting today with Assistant Commissioner of Police Granville Gause to examine several police fatal shootings, including those committed in Westmoreland yesterday. Gause is head of the Bureau of Special Investigations.
"I can't say how many cases there are, but we will be looking at a lot of recent cases," Williams said.
So far, only one of the deceased persons in the Westmoreland incidents has been identified. He is Alfred Anthony Campbell, popularly called 'Penni Gray', a 51-year-old taxi operator of Mint Road, Negril, in the parish.
Businessman killed
Police suspect that at least two of the other men resided in Spanish Town, St Catherine, up to the time of their demise. Police were unable to ascertain their identities up to press time.
Police said that sometime after midnight Sunday, Rasheed Golaub, a businessman in his 20s, had locked up his bar and was in the company of three friends along the Three Miles main road, near Savanna-la-Mar, when they were approached by a group of men travelling in a white Toyota Caldina motor car.
The men opened fire at them, hitting Golaub multiple times. He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
The police were alerted to the incident and about 1:25 a.m., a police party intercepted a car fitting the description of the one in which the gunmen were travelling, in an area called Jane Mark along the George's Plain road. The police said the men fired at them and, during a shoot-out, three men were fatally shot. An illegal firearm was allegedly taken from the vehicle.
Two hours later, the police, acting on intelligence, visited an apartment complex at Ocean Edge Lane in Negril. Two men were seen, one of whom the police said opened fire at them, while the other attacked a member of the party with a knife. They were fatally shot.
A Glock 17 pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition was taken from them. They are believed to be linked to a gang in the Spanish Town area.
