PNPYO needs a shake-up
The Editor, Sir:
As a former member of the People's National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) I must say that I very concerned about where my organisation and its parent party, the once great People's National Party is going. It is nothing short of amazing that with all the problems that the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration is facing, it is still very competitive on the ground.
One major problem that needs to be addressed is that of leadership. The PNP must, sooner rather than later change those at the top of the ladder. However, who is there that can effectively take up the mantle of leadership in the near future? Interestingly, the JLP seems to have brighter young leaders when compared with the PNP. Dr Christopher Tufton, Andrew Holness, James Robertson, Marlene Malahoo Forte, Kamina Johnson readily come to mind. And younger ones like Delano Seiveright and Warren Newby are impressive. On the other hand, the PNP certainly has stars in Basil Waite, Lisa Hanna, Mark Golding and at an extreme, Peter Bunting (not my favourite at all).
The days of pandering to 'base' elements must come to an end. It has led our country nowhere.
