Worker suspended over missing rehab funds

A CLERICAL worker employed to the Ministry of Justice has been suspended from her post after the disappearance of more than $797,000 from the Drug Court Rehabilitation Programme.
The suspension of the employee is linked to the investigation into the disappearance of the money.
The Drug Court Rehabilitation Programme is a joint initiative between the ministries of justice and health.
Permanent Secretary Robert Rainford yesterday said the police were called in after the ministry's internal auditors discovered that the money was missing.
"We have to send a strong message that behaviour like this will not be tolerated, and no one is exempt as we strive to stem the misappropriation or theft of government resources, whether financial or otherwise," Rainford said.
