Real Estate Board going after unlicensed sellers

The Real Estate Board on Wednesday was successful in its prosecution of an illegal dealer in real estate in Mandeville.
Winston McLean was convicted on six counts of breaching the Real Estate Act.
Pete Francis, inspector of investigation, told Sunday Business that McLean who operates M&G Development Real Estate at 4 Newly Road, Mandeville, Manchester, had his office searched by the Real Estate Board on August 12 and a number of documents, purporting to deal with real estate, were seized.
McLean, who appeared in the Mandeville Resident Magistrate's Court, pleaded guilty to the six counts and was fined $40,000 on each count. He faces nine months' imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
"The Real Estate Board is getting tough on unlicensed developers or salesmen, and this case is an example," said Francis.
"I want the public to be advised that before they engage in any business with any developer, they should check with the Real Estate Board," he added.
