Grants Crescent shelved?

Published:Friday | September 3, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The Editor, Sir:

More than a year ago, I wrote to express the distress of the residents on Grants Crescent, Richmond Park, St Andrew. It would seem the plight of the people of Grants Crescent have obviously been falling on deaf ears.

Regardless of the perilous potholes, Grants Crescent is still being used as a turn off or short cut going to and from Hagley Park Road through to Richmond Park by utility vehicles, private passenger vehicles and even, in some cases, public passenger vehicles. Often, these very motorists heckle the residents about the road condition.

"Unno cyan fix unno road?" "Throw away unno car and buy a boat." "Unno need fi get a lifeguard post out yah." "Put a sign out yah weh seh: riva bed ahead." "Block de road man!" are just a few of the of the colourful suggestions and comments that have been hurled at the residents by passing motorists, and even pedestrians who choose to brave Grants Crescent's pothole-infested road during the recent rainy weather.

For the past four years, residents have had to deal with this poor road condition. While awaiting due process to take its course, and after having made several active attempts via our monthly neighbourhood meetings with representatives from the office of our esteemed member of parliament and visits to the relevant agencies/authorities, we have so far only gathered a certain understanding of the strata system as to how road work is applied for, by whom, and the relevant person/persons responsible for the respective constituencies, and the relevant ministry which processes or tables such applications before they are finally delegated to the office of the National Works Agency for the road work to be carried out.

After so long, we are left wondering if Grants Crescent has been shelved by the powers that be.

I am, etc.,
