DUNCANS, Trelawny:

The children and step-children of Gertrude Dennis of Duncans, Trelawny, feted her with an 80th birthday party at Braco Guest House in the parish recently.

Among the many friends and well-wishers who joined the celebration were her children: Jerome, Ainsley, Denton, Paulett, Sylvia, Ray, Angelia, Donavan, Rosalyn, Devon and Rohan as well as stepchildren Roderick, Kathleen and Alvin.

The Reverend Horace Rose and her cousin, Doris Dixon, described Mrs Dennis as a witty woman of God and hard worker who always gave encouragement to to everyone.

Her children revealed that although they didn't have much, she always worked hard to care for them. She had even given up her job as a domestic helper. In her reply, Mrs Dennis thanked God for long life, relatives and friends who made the years a blessing. Husband of 60 years, Ernest, died in 2006.

Master of ceremonies, radio personality Jennifer 'Jenny-Jenny' Small, kept the guests entertained throughout the formalities. They dined on: fish, pork, goat meat and chicken prepared by Hilton Dixon and her daughter-in-law, Señorita Dennis.
