WESTERN BUREAU:

The Granville police in St James are investigating several leads that could result in the arrest of the masterminds behind a chop shop uncovered at Retirement in the parish yesterday.

It is understood that seven scrapped vehicles were found in a heavily vegetated area, close to the Retirement landfill near Montego Bay.

Reports are that, approximately 11 a.m., members of the Granville police, acting on intelligence, went to the area and found the chop shop.

A search of a wooden structure at the location also turned up a quantity of vehicle parts, and three registration plates - CE 3376, CE 7489 and PB 2067.

The scrapped vehicles include four Toyota Hiace minibuses, one Toyota Probox, a grey Toyota Corolla station wagon, a blue Toyota Corolla sedan and a 1989 Toyota Corolla sedan.

"Some of the chassis numbers were tampered with, and there were indications that others had been cut out," said Corporal Ryan Malcolm, Constabulary Communication Network officer for St James.

Persons who have lost their vehicles are being asked to contact the Granville police at 952-3337, or Montego Bay police at 684-9082/684-9315 or 119.
