A political liability

The Editor, Sir:

Recently, I wrote to say that Bruce Golding was likely to become a political liability to the Jamaica Labour Party but I must admit that I did it against my better judgement, as I was not ready to accept that he already was.

But Mr Golding, like his predecessor, who almost single-handedly destroyed the Labour Party, confining them to 18 years in Opposition, seems set to obliterate it as a viable alternative to the People's National Party. The JLP has failed to grasp anything from its experience even though it barely managed to win the 2007 election. The Jamaica Labour Party has lost its political edge, and if it were not for the complacency of the PNP it would would still be in opposition. The party's performance under Golding since assuming office suggests that is where it belongs.

The leader has demonstrated an inability to deal with sensitive issues as he always appears uninformed about his party's affairs. He should be warned that he needs not create political enemies within his party as this is political suicide. The political machinery of the JLP has suffered irreparable damage during its years in the wilderness. Mr Golding should have identified the damage and ensured roadworthiness of the vehicle before getting behind the wheels.

Somebody needs to stop him and take the vehicle to the garage before it is too late.

I am, etc.,
