Enough is enough
The Editor, Sir:
The time has come for all Jamaicans to step up to the podium and tell the politicians that enough is enough. If Jamaica is to move forward in peace and prosperity there must be an end to political tribalism.
The People's National Party (PNP) councillors in St Elizabeth, Peter Bunting, member of parliament for Central Manchester, and Luther Buchanan, MP for Eastern Westmoreland, have all registered their disgust at the Government's handling of the selection of roads to be upgraded under the US$400 million five-year Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme.
The loan acquired from the Chinese for the road repairs is to be serviced from proceeds of the gas tax paid by all motorists and commercial users of fuel.
I will again reiterate that this is Jamaica for Jamaicans and not specifically for supporters of either political party. Jamaicans all have to pay their taxes whether they be supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) or PNP. The people deserve better and more transparent governance, with equality and justice for one and all.
Some politicians from both parties are guilty of these heinous tribalistic acts because of their insatiable thirst and hunger for political power. They do not care for the people, or this country. If these politicians cared they would not continue to suppress the people with their political selfishness.
I am, etc.,
VERNA GORDON BINNS
