Harbour View flooded, again

For the second time in less than a month, heavy rains yesterday left some residents of Harbour View in eastern St Andrew struggling to deal with flood water which flowed into their homes.
As the rain poured yesterday, some residents of Sargasso and Starfish avenues in the community found themselves having to deal with the water which covered their floors, reaching more than two feet high in some areas.
The residents claimed the flooding problem only started after construction work began on the new Harbour View bridge.
"From the work started on the bridge, we have had this problem and I have spoken repeatedly to officials of the National Works Agency (NWA) about it," Carole Thomas told The Gleaner as she swept water from inside her house.
Items damaged
Another resident had to rush home from the school at which she was teaching to deal with the flooding in her house.
The residents pointed to furniture and appliances that had been damaged by the flood water and blamed the NWA for their problems.
Others blamed the political directorate for not paying sufficient attention to their concerns.
But late yesterday afternoon, the NWA told The Gleaner that the drainage issues had been addressed.
"Officers went there and identified the problem and the drain has been cleared," said Colin Morrison, community relations officer at the NWA.
