Caution on the roads
The Editor, Sir:
Permit me to use this medium to urge Jamaicans to drive with caution on the roads, especially when the road is wet. On Sunday, during the heavy rains, the driver of a SUV lost control of the vehicle which flipped over several times after overtaking other cars around a corner on the Ewarton main road. The passengers came out of it without a scratch, but the driver, who was pinned down for several minutes, was badly injured.
As with many accidents, this one could have been avoided. Two of the most important rules of driving are often broken. One must drive cautiously when the road is wet, and do not overtake around a corner. For those who may be in a hurry for whatever reason, remember that it is better to be late in this world, than to be early in the next.
In closing, I must commend the 119 operator who picked up my call within a few minutes of dialling, the persons nearby who ran to the aid of the passengers until the police and firemen arrived and the quick response of the police, ambulance and firefighters.
I am, etc.,
