More flood woes hit McGregor Gully
TWO YEARS ago to the day, residents of McGregor Gully in south-east St Andrew woke up to find the main road into the community, First Avenue, split in two, the gully wall broken away in two places and several houses flooded.
Yesterday, the gully walls survived the heavy waters but again First Avenue was split down the middle and several homes were flooded.
"It was bad, very bad," said People's National Party caretaker for the area, Julian Robinson, as he toured the community yesterday.
"The water was more than head high in some areas and people have lost furniture, clothing, food and everything," Robinson added.
He said more than 50 persons were affected and had to be moved to an emergency centre which was opened at the McGregor Gully Community Centre.
"The gully actually held which is a good thing but the reality is that the gully was not able to deal with the volume and force of the water," Robinson explained.
Several residents appealed for assistance as they recounted tales of woe based on the flood water which roared through the community Tuesday night into yesterday morning.
