More left distressed in aftermath

Linstead, St Catherine: Several houses in Bog Walk and Linstead in St Catherine were flooded on Tuesday night, as heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Nicole lashed the island.

A distressed mother of six, 32-year-old Claudia Henry, a member of one of the four families who occupy a house near the traffic signal on the Linstead/Bog Walk bypass told The Gleaner that it was the second time during her six years in that area that she was experiencing such severe flooding.

"The first time me lose everything. Me have to put mattress pan house top and all them things deh, and people representing the member of parliament (Natalie Neita-Headley) come and say them going to do something, but a don't see nothing done," she explained.

Her 32-year-old spouse, Marlon Bryce, told The Gleaner that his business had suffered a severe setback, as most of his goods valued at approximately $25,000 which were stored in the house were damaged.

"Mi have a little stall out pan the highway, sell me juice and them thing deh. Right now me have me juice but most a them burst up; Guinness, other liquor mash up, a just stress," Bryce said.

It was difficult for another occupant, 52-year-old Linda Morrison, office attendant at the Bog Walk Branch Library to disguise the pain she felt as she mopped up the dirty water.

"I live here for two and a half years. This is the second time I experience this water here. Every time I say I going to look a place but can't get anywhere. I could only save my TV and some clothes and so forth. Right now my fridge, dresser, bed, stove and everything is under water inside there," Morrison explained.

Other houses on Bennett and Victoria streets in Linstead also felt the wrath of the heavy showers.
