Manchester PC scrambles for resources

MANDEVILLE, Manchester: Members of the Manchester Parish Council will be scrambling to secure the monetary resources to carry out repairs on the parish's roads and assist residents who have suffered losses as a result of Tropical Storm Nicole, which lashed the island recently.

Speaking during the October monthly meeting of the Manchester Parish Council, Mayor Brenda Ramsay, said preliminary estimates have put damage to the parish's roads and coastline at more than $129 million.

Ramsay cautioned that the final figure is expected to be much higher after a more detailed survey of the damage is carried out by the council. She, however, was not optimistic despite the severe damage to the parish's roadways that immediate help from central government would be forthcoming to the People's National Party (PNP) led council.
