Brazil's government says unemployment is at its lowest since 2002.

The government's IBGE statistics bureau says that unemployment was at 6.2 per cent in September. In the same month, a year ago, unemployment stood at 7.7 per cent.

The statistics agency said Thursday that the latest figure is the lowest since officials began using the present methodology in 2002.

The previous low was also registered this year: 6.7 per cent in August.

On Wednesday night, Brazil's Central Bank decided to keep a key interest rate unchanged at 10.75 per cent.
