Think before you name
When you are deciding on a name for your business, you need remember that the business name is what creates a first impression on your potential customers/clients. Don't choose something that is too trendy, or you are likely to outgrow it in the next few years. You need to choose a name that will stand the test of time.
Here are some things to think about when you're creating a name for your business/company:
Keep it simple but unique;
It is sometimes good to choose a name that tells your customers what the business does:
Don't even think about using indecent language or anything hinting at illegal activities or immorality ... it will NOT be approved.
Once you have an idea for your business name, the next step is to research the name to determine if it is already taken. You can do an unofficial name search on the Companies' Office website: (www.orgjamaica.com)
The Internet is also a good resource. It is huge, fast and free. You can always run a quick name search using a search engine like Google (www.google.com), or Yahoo (www.yahoo.com) to see if anyone is using the name you want. Checking the phone book is also a great place to start.
If your initial searches come up clear, the next step is to do an official name search at the Companies Office of Jamaica.
The Companies Office of Jamaica has the right to refuse any name that is likely to cause confusion with another name already on the Register of Companies.
