Two mowed down at bus stop

It was a gloomy Sunday morning for residents of Henley Road, Kingston, who awoke to the tragic death of two of their community members, who were mowed down by a motor car.
Bernice Gary, 65, and Elser Stone, 51, were on their way to church when they were killed on Spanish Town Road in the vicinity of White Lane, Kingston.
Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 8:30 a.m., the driver of a Honda Partner motor car was making his way along Spanish Town Road towards Three Miles.
On reaching the locality of White Lane, another motorist reportedly impeded the path of the Honda motor car, forcing that driver to lose control before mounting the sidewalk and smashing into the bus stop.
Gary died on the spot while Stone sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
It has been reported that the driver of the Honda motor car has since been arrested and charged with two counts of manslaughter and is to appear in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
In the meantime, scores of relatives and friends who gathered at the scene fought hard to come to terms with the awful crash which has left their loved ones dead.
According to an eyewitness who gave her name only as Sharon, the incident unfolded in a flash - so quickly the victims were not able to run.
"It happened so fast. Me hear a big noise, and when me look, the bus stop flat and the woman them lay on the ground. The way how the car mash up, me can't believe the driver survive it," she said.
Sharon described the crash victims as quiet and easy-going churchgoers.
"The two women them no talk and them no trouble people. Church hardly miss them, a so them stay. They were nice people and the community is going to miss them," she said.
She painted a macabre picture of the accident scene.
"The woman who died on the spot body was a terrible sight. Her body cut in two and her body mash up. Is a hard lick them get, because even the one that them rush to hospital, me know say she wouldn't make it because her forehead open up," Sharon told The Gleaner.
The eyewitness also described the driver's lucky escape from a bloodthirsty mob.
"The driver heartless fi want to run after him kill the people them. Me know him woulda dead because man from all, 'bout a run with cutlass, lighter and tyre fi kill him but the police them save him," she said.
