Kingston Wharves and SPRC named top marine terminals in region
Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) and Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena (SPRC) were named the best marine terminals in the Caribbean by the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA).
KWL was named Best Multi-purpose Terminal and SPRC was named the Best Container Terminal. The announcement was made on October 13 during the CSA's Awards Gala.
This is the fifth time SPRC has taken the top container-terminal award, having won in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Kingston Wharves won in 2006 and 2007.
Four ports were honoured for outstanding achievement during 2009, the year under review.
Kingston Container Terminal received the award for dependability;
The Panamanian port of Cristobal received the award for efficiency;
Guadeloupe was awarded the prize for growth and development; and
St Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority was recognised for its safety and security programme and systems.
The CSA's annual Caribbean Port of the Year Competition was established to encourage and promote port development and efficient marine-terminal operations. It recognises those terminals and ports that have sustained a high level of efficiency while maintaining programmes for the ongoing development of human resources and systems.
