The House of Representatives has been asked to approve a salary package of $9.2 million for the commissioner of the recently created Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM).
The office, which was established in August, is headed by Terrence Williams.
It has been proposed that Williams be paid $5.7 million for basic salary yearly and another $2 million for housing allowance. There is also a provision of $400,000 leave passage allowance.
The Independent Commission of Investigations Act repealed the Police Public Complaints Act. This paves the way for the setting up of an independent commission to probe alleged extrajudicial killings by the security forces, as well as other abuses of Jamaicans by agents of the State.
