FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

People's National Party member of parliament for North Trelawny, Dr Patrick Harris, wants Minister of Transport and Works Mike Henry to upgrade roads in his constituency, ahead of the completion of the Falmouth cruise terminal.

Harris recently criticised the government for neglecting infrastructural development in North Trelawny over the years. He said a number of roads have fallen into disrepair and must be upgraded to prevent further erosion.

Increasing opportunities

"The Deeside, Bunkers Hill, Dromily, Sherwood, Peru, and Fontabelle roads should be upgraded as a matter of priority, since these roads will open up the constituency's tremendous eco-tourism potential, further housing development, as well as increase farming opportunities," Harris stated.

He said he has had to channel money from his constituency development fund to effect repairs to roads that are badly in need of upgrading, pointing to the Clark's Town to Hyde main road as one roadway that has been repaired twice in two years.

Harris urged the government to redirect revenue from the gas tax for road development. He describedas shameful the action of collecting the gas tax and and not using it to enhance road development in the parish.
