Deadly weekend - Five dead including a child
Two-year-old Lenniea Clarke of Spaldings Ville in Clarendon, who died after a wall fell on her late Saturday evening, was one of at least five people killed on the weekend.
Reports from the Spaldings police are that about 2:30 p.m., Clarke was playing with friends in the community when the wall fell on her. She received multiple injuries and was taken to the Percy Junor Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
In St Mary, the police were summoned to the scene of a gruesome murder-suicide just over an hour after midday on Saturday. The deceased were identified as 20-year-old Sasha-Gay Muirhead, unemployed, of Race Course, Windsor Castle, in the parish, and her 28-year-old boyfriend, Owen Ingram, also called 'Andel', a security guard of Frontier district, Port Maria, St Mary.
Suicide note
According to the Port Maria police, about 1 p.m. Ingram was visiting Muirhead at a friend's house in Race Course when two explosions were heard coming from the room they occupied. They were discovered lying on the floor, each with a wound to the forehead. One 9mm pistol and six 9mm rounds, along with a suicide note, were taken from the scene. Investigators believe Muirhead was shot by her boyfriend who then turned the gun to his head.
In the meantime, The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced a probe into an incident in which two men were fatally shot by the police along Howard Avenue, Clarendon, about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
A 9mm pistol and three cartridges were reportedly seized during the incident. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending further investigations.
In Pigeon Valley district, Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew, the badly decomposed body of a male was found in an unfinished building by members of the community on Saturday.
Reports from the Lawrence Tavern police are that, about 5:30 p.m., they were alerted and upon their arrival they discovered the body with multiple wounds. The unidentified male is believed to be in his mid 60s, is of dark complexion and about 180 centimetres tall.
An on-the-spot post-mortem established that he died as a result of head injuries. An immediate burial was ordered and investigations continue.
