Today marks the start of the countdown for the big day, Christmas in the City, which is only seven short days away.

There is no way on earth you can afford to miss the opportunity for the biggest shopping spree of the year, which will energise downtown Kingston on Wednesday, December 15.

Christmas in the City will be launched today at 1 p.m. at the intersection of King and Barry streets. Participating storeowners are well primed and ready for the mass convergence of shoppers from all over the island, who are being encouraged to take advantage of the great deals in the daylong shopping fiesta.

It's gonna be a fantastic day of shopping, discounts, entertainment, fun and so much more.

Safety not a problem

Town Clerk Errol Greene said "Safety is no problem."

"The police have everything under control. Shoppers have absolutely nothing to worry about," Greene said.

Speaking to the plans for Christmas in the City, Francis Kennedy, vice-president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, said King Street, which will be the main retail street, will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Additionally, "all shops will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. And, depending on the store, discounts will range from 10 per cent to 50 per cent all day," said Kennedy.

He is also assuring shoppers that various parking lots will be located around downtown, and shuttle services will be in place.
