Support your boss/manager
Apostle Steve Lyston, Contributor
Regardless OF how we view our bosses or managers, they wear heavy hats, and one thing is certain, bosses/managers need our support. It is not easy to lead in this era and time without God's help!
While many benefit from good leadership, many also fail to understand what bosses/managers go through on a daily basis and their fight to stay focused. Many of their daily challenges they go through include:
- Pressure at board meetings
- Pressure to meet the collection quota
- Meeting sales target with good profit margins
- Tight control and budget
- Meeting budget deadlines, goals and objectives
- Fear of being fired and loss of benefits
- Labour problems and staff motivation
Further to this, they have to deal with their personal problems, including:
- Providing for their families
- Marital/family problems and loss
- Betrayal and injustice
- Rejection
- Sickness
- Accusations
Most will show a smiling face and will not show the pressures they are enduring, because of the office they hold and their perceptions of people's views of them.
It is easy for one to criticise their leaders for not meeting their needs or demands, but if each person were doing his/her part, then the load would be lighter and the goals and objectives would be met.
We need to ask ourselves these questions, 'Am I a supporter of my leader or a spectator?' or 'Am I an asset or a liability?' or 'Am I adding to or subtracting from the organisation?'
Do you believe that you can do a better job than your boss/manager? If so, you may learn the hard way! If you eat unprocessed food or unripened fruit, it can cause serious problems to the digestive system!
In order to stay focused as a boss/manager, such a person must pull strength and resources from the Lord! God knows all your needs and He will not disappoint you!
Excellent service
Staff members must recognise that as they give their service, it must be executed with excellence. Their performance appraisals should be no less than excellent; if not it is important to improve! Many will hold back from being faithful to their tasks because they want their managers to fail so that they can rise. In the secular, it is called 'politics'! In the Church it is called the Nicolaitan spirit! (Revelation 2:6-15).
Such persons are in the organi-sation to divide and conquer, undermine the boss/manager and criticise. They are not team builders! They are there pushing their motives and seeking power!
Every worker in an organisation must know that once you are unfaithful with the task that you have been given, then:
'God will not allow you to be promoted or be given greater responsibilities, true riches, more money or more power'. (Luke 16:10-12)
Remember, it always takes somebody higher than you to promote you; whatever seed we sow in life, we will always reap it! (Galatians 6:7)

How do I support my boss/manager?
Talk to your boss/manager and find out in which area he/she needs the greatest support and what he/she thinks you can do to help alleviate the pressures.
Pray for your boss/manager and his/her family; and speak and pray, success health and blessing upon them. Remember when they succeed, you succeed!
Stand up for them and cover them. Always keep in mind that there are persons such as competitors and even fellow bosses/managers that want them to fail. A good staff will back their boss/manager even if he/she is wrong.
Ask God to reveal your boss'/manager's heart to you so that you will know how to serve better.
Use your initiative to let your boss/manager look good!
Get together with other staff members and give small tokens of appreciation to your boss/manager from time to time.
Expose undermining of the boss/manager - don't be a part of it!
Remain respectful to your boss/manager and honour him/her! Honour begets honour!
Remember, life is funny! You never know where you may go in the world and need a recommendation; and you never know where in life you will end up!
