More than 200 pensioners of the Shipping Association of Jamaica were last week fêted during the annual Kingston Portworker Superannuation Pension Fund Christmas luncheon.

Held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, the luncheon saw pensioners being treated to the musical delights of the Bare Essentials Band in a Christmas atmosphere.

Master of ceremonies, Elva Ruddock, kept the vibe going with giveaways during a fun-filled show. From prizes for the best-dressed female and male, to the oldest pensioner, the longest-serving pensioner, the best wig and the pensioner with the highest value of old Jamaican currency, pensioners were kept on their toes.

Major reduction

Chairman of the fund, Harry Maragh, in addressing the pensioners, noted that while the fund experienced a major reduction in income due to changes in the financial sector in the last year, the wealth of the fund was still profitable.

"Our fund is one of the strongest in Jamaica and we have managed to do well. We wish to thank the trustees on behalf of the members, for the great work they have been doing," Maragh said. "I must assure you, your money is safe," he told the pensioners.

The Kingston Portworker Superannuation Fund was established in 1954 to provide benefits for the members of the labour force on their retirement.
