MAY PEN, Clarendon:
VENDORS IN May Pen will ply their wares in an improved market for the Christmas holidays, as work is currently being done on the facility.
Rowan Jarrett, project manager at the Clarendon Parish Council, on Monday assured that work on the facility would be completed in time for the busy Christmas period.
Mayor of May Pen, Milton Brown, had promised that the market would be refurbished and the drains fixed by mid-December.
"With the increased space in the market and use of other spaces, we do not anticipate having a lot of issues with maintaining law and order in the capital, as vendors will be expected to use these areas,'' said Brown. He added that the council would be working with the police to lower the level of hazard that persons may encounter during this busy period.
Brown told The Gleaner that another location on Windsor Avenue, would be used to facilitate vendors during the Yuletide season, adding that vendors would only be accommodated on the streets for grand market. This he said, may attract a small cost this year.
