Downtown vendors get three free days

Three hassle-free days for downtown vendors. That's Kingston Mayor Desmond McKenzie's Christmas gift to them for being 'nice' this season.

On making the announcement at the opening of Gassan Azan's Sweet Tings Bakery on Wednesday, vendors cheered their approval at the good news.

"I must commend the vendors of downtown for being very good. I know that in return they are expecting something from me, so this is my gift to them," said McKenzie.

Come next week, from December 22-24, vendors will be able to peddle their wares openly without fear of being hassled or having them confiscated by the police.

However, McKenzie did warn that if they did not maintain law and order, he would revoke that privilege and reduce it to one day only.

Town Clerk Errol Greene said McKenzie would, in the coming days, make further announcements on the details regarding the rules and regulations for those free days.
